Irkutsk – Olkhon Island


itinerary

DAY 1 - Irkutsk

  • Meet-and-greet at Irkutsk International Airport and transfer to our hotel of choice in central Irkutsk.

  • Soviet-themed walk around Irkutsk and short boat ride along the mighty Angara River.

  • Overnight in Irkutsk.

DAY 2 - Olkhon

  • Transfer by car and speedboat to Khuzhir, the main town on Olkhon, an otherworldly beautiful island located just a few hundred metres off the western shore of the lake.

  • Free afternoon on Olkhon island: go wild and let your senses guide you!

  • Overnight in Khuzhir.

DAY 3 - Olkhon

  • After breakfast we'll head up to Khoboy, the northern tip of the island, mainly inhabited by the indigenous Buryat people.

  • After a traditional Buryat lunch, we'll visit Peschanaya, an abandoned Soviet settlement with a dark history to tell.

  • Transfer back to Khuzhir and relax in a typical Siberian bath house.

  • Overnight in Khuzhir.

DAY 4 - UST-ORDYNSKY

  • We'll spend a last lazy morning in Khuzhir enjoying the slow pace of local life and the stunning beauty of the surrounding nature.

  • After lunch we'll slowly head back towards Irkutsk with a short stopover in Ust-Ordynsky, the administrative center of Ust-Orda Buryatia, a landlocked semi-autonomous Buddhist region within the Irkutsk Oblast.

  • Overnight in Irkutsk.

DAY 5 - Flight back home or transfer to further destinations  

  • Transfer to Irkutsk International Airport for your flight back home.

  • Possible tour extensions to this itinerary include: Buryatia and/or Altai.

  • End of the tour.
